Playing Instruments

Lovis Brefka on his work: “The main purpose of any musical instrument is, as the name suggests, to produce music. There’s no question about that—but my fascination with instruments of all kinds doesn’t end there, because in instrument making, the visual and tactile aspects often seem to be designed with just as much love and care as the auditory elements.
That’s why, for my photo series in the advanced photography course, I set out to depict these less obvious and often overlooked aspects —in a sense, I “play” with the instruments depicted, not in the classical sense by plucking strings or pressing keys, but through the use of photographic techniques such as lighting, perspective, sharpness, blur, and camera settings.”
