Mike Thümmler on his work: "My photographic work on the subject of "The Strange" is intended to depict the peculiarity and strangeness of tattoos in everyday situations. Although tattoos are no longer associated with such negative prejudices as they were a few years ago, for some they are still a kind of foreign body and a conspicuous feature on a person's body. Based on a tattoo studio, the series of pictures shows several people who have practically "alienated" themselves with heavy tattoos, or who stand out in their professional environment because of their tattoos. It is noticeable that the pictures from professional life sometimes seem more alien than the pictures in which the focus is on the tattoos."
