Computer graphics

In the Computer Graphics module, students use the capabilities of 3D computer-generated imagery (CGI) to create a photorealistic digital image, known as a still.

With the latest software, this can be learnt very quickly and produces surprisingly realistic results. Objects are modelled and assigned appropriate shaders, i.e. materials. These objects are used to create complex virtual scenes, much like in a huge photography studio, but with the major advantage that everything takes place on the computer.

Light and shadow, shapes and colours, materials and surfaces – all of these are used in a controlled manner to elevate the previously hand-drawn design into a photorealistic, emotional dimension.
